Senegal TV + FM Radio Distribution
While with VertexRSI I was the technical lead for $19M upgrade of the entire TV/FM Radio distribution infrastructure in Senegal, Africa.
This project was provide near nationwide coverage for the TV and FM Radio channels from Radiodiffusion Télévision Sénégalaise (RTS).
Previously the TV coverage was limited to a few major cities and FM radio was not national. In order to increase the coverage this project included antenna and transmitter and RF combiner upgrades at some existing sites, together with the construction of five new transmitter sites.
Distribution of the TV and Radio channels to all locations was via a new satellite distribution path using Intelsat 801 at 328.5E This originated from a uplink installed the RTS Headquarters in Dakar to 4.5m receive-only downlinks at each of the transmitter locations.
The project utilized new TV and FM Radio transmitters from Harris and antennas from Jampro.
I performed the network design, coverage and propagation planning, the supervision of equipment subsystem design and system integration.
During the project I completed two entire tours around the country. The first was to perform site surveys of existing facilities and to identify locations for the new transmitter sites. The second was towards the end of the project to inspect all the installations and work through punch list items.
